Commercial due diligence / Guide 02

Why payment reliability belongs beside day rate

A strong day rate can still create weak commercial footing if the route from invoice to payment is unclear. Compare both before you decide what a contract is worth in practice.

The difference

Rate is an offer. Reliability is the route through it.

Day rate describes the stated amount for a day. Payment reliability is a separate commercial signal about the route from an accepted invoice to money arriving. Looking at one without the other can distort the comparison.

01

Headline rate

A stated daily amount can be a useful starting point, but it does not explain the full commercial arrangement on its own.

02

Working shape

The role and rotation pattern give the rate context. Expected hours and expenses determine whether a day-rate band can be considered on a like-for-like basis.

03

Invoice route

An approval step sits between an invoice and payment. Knowing the route matters because a short stated term is not the same as a short route to approval.

04

Payment reliability

Payment reliability is the practical question of whether the commercial process tends to deliver payment when expected. It belongs beside the rate because the two signals describe different risks.

Before you compare offers

Move from the stated rate to the practical terms.

01 / Confirm the role and rotation pattern, so the commercial comparison starts from the same working shape.

02 / Read the day-rate band alongside expected hours and expenses, rather than treating the headline number as the total value.

03 / Ask how invoices are approved and what timing follows approval, so the payment route is explicit.

04 / Weigh payment reliability beside the day rate: a larger stated amount does not automatically mean a stronger commercial position.

Contribute to the wider picture

The comparison improves when the inputs stay structured.
